Orva Dee Slinkard Peachey, 83, of Jonesboro, passed from this life on Sunday, June 24, 2018, at her home.
Born near Hiwasse in Benton County, Arkansas, Orva Dee lived in Hiwasse, Bentonville and Mena before moving to Jonesboro in 1970. She was a homemaker and also worked for the U.S. Postal System and was a classroom aide for Jonesboro Public Schools.
Orva Dee was a long-time member of Southwest Church of Christ where she was a Bible class teacher, nursery coordinator and was involved in planning for church meals and celebration showers. Through the years Orva Dee was a member of the Teddy Bear ministry and helped make and distribute 20,0000 teddy bears to the little ones in the church.
Orva Dee was past president of the West Elementary Parent-Teacher Association, County 4-H Leader and officer in the Modern Extension Homemakers Club. She was a long-time member of Associated Women for Harding University, local Hospital Auxiliary member and an avid Arkansas Razorback fan.
Orva Dee was preceded in death by her parents: Frank and Nellie Belle McMillan Reynolds; her first husband, Jim Slinkard; her brother Robert Mack Reynolds who was killed in action during W.W. II and buried in France; her sister Joy Lee McKeehan; and a granddaughter Shannon Slinkard.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years and 6 months, James Roy Peachey of the home;
2 sons: Alan Lee Slinkard of Pineville, Missouri, and Rodney Dee Slinkard of Gilbert, Arkansas;
2 daughters: Pamala Raye Hill (Russell) of Little Rock, and Sandra Kaye Hingst (Art) of Hermann, Missouri;
9 grandchildren: Jerry Slinkard (Nikki) of Florida, Chad Slinkard (Casey Anderson) of Pineville, Missouri, Tala Slinkard of Colorado, Rachel Rossi, Rebecca Rossi and Tori Hill, all of Little Rock, Heather Hingst, Haley Hingst and Heidi Hingst, all of Hermann, Missouri; and
6 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Jimmy Adcox officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service. Present and past ladies of the Southwest Church of Christ Teddy Bear Ministry will be honorary pallbearers.
A graveside committal service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday morning at the DeAnn Cemetery in Prescott with with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Nephews and sons-in-law will serve as active pallbearers.
