Opal Lee Love, 92, of Lake City, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at St. Bernards Medical Center. She was born on February 4, 1931, in Mulberry, Arkansas, to the late John Henry Rogers and Annie Rogers. Opal was a remarkable woman known for her entrepreneurial spirit, warm heart, and unwavering determination.
Opal owned her own house cleaning business, a testament to her hard work and dedication. She was not only a businesswoman but also a talented seamstress who found joy in creating beautiful garments. Opal had a passion for cooking and was particularly fond of the holidays, cherishing the moments spent with her family during these special times. She had a green thumb and took pride in her yardwork, creating a welcoming and beautiful home. Opal adored her feline companions, loved watching hummingbirds and butterflies, and was known for always having a clear sense of what she wanted.
Opal was preceded in death by her husband, J.L. Love, one daughter, Donna Love, and five brothers: Ted Rogers, Bill Rogers, Grant Rogers, Gene Rogers, and E.A. "Shorty" Rogers. Additionally, one great-great-grandchild, Zoey Sims.
She is survived by her son, Rob Love (Angie) of Lake City, and three daughters: Shirley Atkinson (David) of Bono, Vickie Ruffin of Bay, and Peggy Davis (Herb) of Lake City. Opal leaves behind a legacy in her nine grandchildren: Johnny Moody, David Ruffin, Terri Lytle, Mark Ruffin, Stephanie Davis, Herb Davis Jr., Felicia Davis, Jacob Love, and Abbie Buck. Her family extends further with 12 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren; and a lifetime of friends.
Visitation for Opal Lee Love will be held on Friday, November 24, 2023, at Emerson Funeral Home, starting at 12:00 p.m. and concluding at 1:00 p.m. Graveside services will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Nettleton Cemetery, with Darrin Owens officiating. The active pallbearers for the service will be Kevin Hall, Ben Barnes, David Ruffin, Mark Ruffin, Jake Love, and Johnny Moody.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests considering donations to the Nea Humane Society at 6111 E Highland Dr, Jonesboro, AR 72401, as a way to honor Opal's love for animals and compassion for their well-being. Opal will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched with her kindness and warmth.
