Omar "Sonny" Gentry

Omar “Sonny” Gentry, 71 of Jonesboro died Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at his home. He was born in Yadkinville, N. C. and moved to Jonesboro in 1965, moving here from Flint, Michigan.

He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and a member of the Nettleton Lions Club. He enjoyed camping with his family in North Carolina and in Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, Omar and Zera Dowell Gentry, one son, Stephen Edwin Gentry; a sister, Rita Tucker; one brother, Benny Gentry; his step-mom, Myrtle Gentry and his mother-in-law, Stella Dunn.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 12, 2006 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Bro. Don Vuncannon and Bro. Harold Ray officiating and burial to follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers are Rocky Morgan, David Morgan, Lorin Morgan, Stan Johnson, Owen Wilson, John Hays and Rick Atkinson. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Grady L. Saxton, Dr. James E. Porterfield, and members of the Nettleton Lions Club. Visitation will be from 6 – 8 Friday night, August 11, 2006 at Emerson Funeral Home.
