Norma Lee Stevens

Norma L. “Toots” Stevens, 87, of Arlington, TX died at her residence on Monday, October 22, 2012, with her daughter at her side.

Norma “Toots” was born on April 10, 1925 to the late J.H. and Lillie Tucker Simpkins of Shirley, AR. She was a home maker and was married to the late Virnis Stevens. She lived most of her life in and around the Jonesboro area, before moving to Arlington, TX to be with her middle daughter. She loved to read books, work word puzzles, and while her health held up she enjoyed gardening. She was a quiet person, but all those that came to know her very quickly learned she was a loving and kind lady and was known as “Momma” to most.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by son, Dewayne Stevens; a daughter, Patricia Stevens; two brothers Jessie and Tom Simpkin; two sisters, Betty and Maybelle Simpkins; and one great grandchild, Miaaka Sadie Hawkins.

Survivors include her daughters, Betty (Buddy) Davis of Jonesboro, Ester (Glenn) Cobb of Brookland, and Ollie Ann Stevens of Arlington, TX; two sons, Jerry(Joy) Stevens of Altus, OK and Jackie(Janice) Stevens of Jonesboro; 17 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren; two brothers, Billy Jack Simpkins of Jonesboro and Ellis Simpkins of Marshall, AR; one sister, Winona Kifer of Jonesboro; and a host of other family and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Emerson Funeral Home.

Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday in the Emerson Memorial Chapel with Nevin Gnagey officiating. Burial will follow at Nettleton Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Honored to serve as pallbearers are all son-in-laws and grandsons.
