Nina Holt Morrison was born August 29, 1914 near Hardy, Arkansas in Sharp County. She has lived most of her life in Bay, Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Morrison; one son, Rickey Morrison; her parents, Troy and Hattie Holt; brothers, Rex Holt and Joe Holt; sisters, Dophine Holland and Jeanette Arnold.
She is survived by one son, Maxie Morrison; one daughter , Phyllis Ashlock, both of Bay; two sisters Isabel Thompson, of Carson, California, and Betty Sue McInturff of Palm Springs, California; five grandchildren, Tina Byrd, of Jonesboro; Gina Hogue, Michael Ashlock, and Jeremy Ashlock, all of Bay, and Cherri Majewski of St. Augustine, Florida; six great grandchildren, Caleb Byrd of Jonesboro, Sidney, Will, Whitley, and Carter Ashlock, all of Bay, and Paige Majewski of St. Augustine, Florida.
She moved to Bay as a young child and lived her entire life in Bay. She graduated from Bay High School in 1933, being the second class to ever graduate from Bay High School.
She helped to organize the first elementary library of Bay School and served as librarian until she retired. She was a member of “Arkansas Retired Teachers Association” and Craighead County Retired Teachers Association. She served as President of the Craighead County P. T.A. and also President of Bay School P.T.A. She was a member of Bay First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School classes for many years. She was W.M.U. President of Mt. Zion Associational W.M.U. and Bay W.M.U. She was President of Bay Garden Club and was selected as “Grand-Marshall of October-Fest.” She enjoyed playing with her great-grandchildren and studying the Bible and teaching Bible classes.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Rex Holt and Danny Taylor officiating with burial following in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be Wednesday 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
