Nell Marie Mattix

Nellie Marie Mattix, 94, of Bowman passed from this life on Monday October 17, 2016 at her home. She was born in Ashley County, Arkansas on September 29, 1922 to the late Floyd Marvin and Maudie Marie Hyman Maxwell. Nell had lived in Bowman for 70 years where she and her husband Tommy were the owners of JT Mattix grocery store. Nell later started her career with Walmart from which she retired. She was a 1945 graduate of Valley View and a member of the Bowman Baptist Church. She loved sewing, gardening and reading.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John T. Mattix, granddaughter, Casaundra Faye Mattix, 3 brothers, Marvin Jr., Gerald, Billy Maxwell and a sister, Betty Shoe.
Survived by her sons, John Mattix (Barbara) of Bono and Jeff Mattix (Mary O’Neal) of Bowman.

Daughters, Frances Barnett (Gerald) of Jonesboro, Jane Elam (Jack) of Jonesboro and Dell Goodman (Jim) of Monette.
Sister, Nettie Holmes of Jonesboro.

Seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Brother in law, Marva Shoe of Greenbriar.

Sisters in law, Hazel Maxwell of Jonesboro, Veta Maxwell of Lexington, Tenn. and Grace Mattix of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends and relatives.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday October 22, 2016 in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Bro. Bryce Holmes officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge.

Visitation will be held from 12:30 P.M. until service time on Saturday in Emerson Memorial Chapel.
Active pallbearers will be Eric Barnett, Blake Nichols, Mikel Washburn, Jared Pulver, Jim Goodman and Mike Wallace. Honorary pallbearer will be Tom Mattix.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Doug Maglothin and Dierksen Hospice.
