Neil F. Bates, 87, of Jonesboro formerly of Petit Jean Mountain passed from this life on Monday, November 6, 2017 at Morningside of Jonesboro with family by his side.
Neil was born in Toltec, AR on August 6, 1930 to the late Ben F and Ellie Chambers Bates. He lived most of his life in the central Arkansas area before moving to Jonesboro. He spent most of his career as a sales representative working for Haverty, Deville, McAfee, Davidson, and Hooker Furniture. He was owner of Bates Furniture Company in Jacksonville. He was an award winning sales representative, and was inducted into the Arkansas Furniture Association Hall of Fame. He retired with 22 years’ experience from the Hooker Furniture Company in 2004. While living in Jonesboro he and his wife Bernice were members of the Southwest Church of Christ. He loved to cook, and while he was able he served on the Cooking Team at Southwest Church of Christ. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers Chester Bates and Chuck Bates.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Bernice Maglothin Bates of Jonesboro; son, Frankie Bates and his wife Cheryl of Shiner, TX, granddaughters, Missy Quinn and her husband Bryan of Conway, Amanda Bates Page and her husband Sean of Little Rock; daughter, Francis Lindsey of Pensacola, FL; grandchildren, Shelly Anderson of Culver City, CA, Dennis Lindsey of Anniston, AL, Dylan Lindsey of Pensacola, FL; son, Dr. Doug Maglothin and his wife Deborah of Jonesboro, grandchildren, Angelia Herren of Jonesboro, Emily Maglothin of Jonesboro, and Doug and his wife Leigh Ann Maglothin of Jonesboro; son, Scotty Maglothin of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Ezra Maglothin of Fayetteville, Erin Maglothin of Fayetteville; daughter, Linda Bailey of Trumann; grandchildren, Tyler Bailey of Little Rock and Lindsey Bailey of Jonesboro; great grandchildren, Mason Thoelke, Chandler Thoelke, Tripler Thoelke, Franklin Bear Page, Judah Cash Page, Lindsey Bailey, Zachery Herren, Evelyn Maglothin, Vivian Maglothin, Dylan Maglothin, Ezra Bailey, Luke Maglothin, brothers, Benny Bates Winterhaven, FL and Freddie Bates of Dallas, TX; and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral service will be Wednesday at 2:00p.m. in the Emerson Memorial Chapel with Dr. Jimmy Adcox and Chris Harrell officiating. Interment will take place immediately follow the chapel service at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Billy Holland, Rick Fielder, Mike Oliver, Charley Barber, Steve Goode, and Darrell Whittingham. Honorary pallbearers are John Freeman, Dr. Ron Blachly, Ken Ziegler, Charles Willis, and Eddie Thomas.
Visitation will take place from 12:30 until service time at 2:00p.m.in the Emerson Memorial Chapel.
