Nathan Allen Whitley

Nathan Allen Whitley, 89, of Bono passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at the Flo & Phil Hospice House in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Nathan was born on September 2, 1925 in Swifton, Arkansas to Joe and Lily Whitley. He was a member of Apple Hill Church of Christ. He retired from Campbell 66 Truck Lines where he was a diesel mechanic for 33 years. He was a World War II Veteran who served in the Pacific Theater.

Nathan was a Christian man who was always kind to everyone he met, and this is how he wanted to be remembered. He was an avid duck hunter and enjoyed fishing and gardening. Nathan was a great fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and delighted in watching them play or listening to them on his radio.

Nathan was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Ray Whitley, Johnny Whitley, and Charley Ferguson and two sisters, Edith Jones and Dora Hunter.

Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years Mildred Whitley; two sons and their wives Glen and Linda Whitley of Bono, Terry and Pat Whitley of Collierville, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Jeffrey and Stephanie Whitley, Justin and Lauren Whitley, Amy and Dale Lipford, and Ashley McDole; six great grandchildren Florence Whitley, Wesleigh Whitley, Devin Lipford, Hannah Allen, Kelli McDole and Owen McDole.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with James King officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jeffrey Whitley, Justin Whitley, Dale Lipford, Devin Lipford, Owen McDole, and Ben Bryant.

Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 at Emerson Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 28, 2014.

In lieu of flowers the family request that a donation be made to the Flo & Phil Hospice House at St. Bernards, 1148 E. Matthews, Jonesboro, Arkansas.
