Nancy Hardin Cathcart passed away at The Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House of lung complications on Sunday, November 24, 2013.
Born in Blytheville, AR on December 27, 1929, Nancy was the only child of Louia Lynn and Bess Hale Hardin. She spent her formative years in Greenville, Mississippi, moving to the Jonesboro area for her Junior and Senior years and graduating from Jonesboro High School in 1948.
Nancy was a descendant of two pioneer families, the Blythes for whom Blytheville was named and the Hardins who helped settle the Ohio River Valley and served leadership roles in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.
An active woman, she participated in Girl & Boy Scouts, PTA, Jonesboro Flower Club; several Bridge Clubs and became a Master Gardener. Her number one talent was sewing. After her children left home, Nancy took up professional men's alterations which led to her opening a business ordering custom tailored clothing from New York for both men and women.
Survivors include her three children and their families: Fred and Susan Cathcart and daughter Natalie; Claudia and Howard Shannon and children Bubba (Nikki) Shannon and Paige (Tim) Cothern; and Cathy Short and her son Nathan. She had three great-grandchildren: Taylor Cothern, Nick Cothern and Cole Shannon.
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Donna Cathcart, her son-in-law Edward Short, her husband, Fred Cathcart, her parents and other family members of origin; and her in-laws Claud and Stella Cathcart and their immediate family.
