Mitchell M. Lawson, 93, of Jonesboro, died at his home September 20, 2010.
He was born March 4, 1917 to Morgan & Ophelia Lawson, on Casey Springs Road where he spent his early years. He worked for Central Chevrolet until he joined the Army Air Corps October 13, 1942, serving as a mechanic-tech on the B-24 Bomber, Liberator. He was discharged November 30, 1945. He was a franchise dealer with Snap On Tools Corp. He was known by many as “Snap-On”. He was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church, joining as a teenager. He was a member of the Jim Farley Sunday School Class, American Legion Post 21, and the Jonesboro Masonic Lodge #129.
Mitchell is survived by his wife of 72 years, Ruth Gage Lawson; daughters, Brenda (Jim) Lawson Lane, Debbi (Michael) Lawson Ledbetter; grandchildren, Mica Lane, Darren Lane, Mitchell Ledbetter; great grandchildren, Alexis Lane and Payton Lane, all of Jonesboro. He is also survived by his sister, Bessie Jarrett, Florence, Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Donald M. Lawson, Leon Lawson, and Tommy Lawson; and one sister, Dorothy Lawson.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Mike Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Herman Cemetery with military honors. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Active pallbearers will be Rufus Gage, Don Lawson, Alan Lawson, Larry Jarrett, Max Parker, Butch Roberts, and Scott Parker.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Jim Farley Sunday School Class.
Visitation will be Wednesday 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
