Mitchel Dean Thompson

Mitchel Dean "Mitch" Thompson, 64, of Jonesboro, passed from this life on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

Mitch was born in Jonesboro and lived most of his life in the Jonesboro area. He was a 1977 graduate of Valley View High School and earned a BS degree in Business Administration and a Masters of Business Administration at Arkansas State University.

For several years Mitch worked in residential construction and built and sold over 30 homes in the Jonesboro area.  He served many years as vice president of human resources for Anchor Packaging before becoming disabled.

Mitch was a member of Cathedral Baptist Church in Jonesboro where he taught Sunday school class. He had a great interest in Hebrew History and spent much time and effort studying and researching the Hebrew Bible. Mitch was heavily involved with online seminary classes and passed each course of study with superior grades.

Mitch was a member of the Northeast Arkansas Chapter and the Arkansas Chapter of the Society of Human Resource Management. He enjoyed golfing and was an avid reader. Mitch was preceded in death by his father, Gearl Thompson.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Gloria Thompson of the home, married April 7, 2000;

mother, Wanda Thompson of Jonesboro;

daughter, Holly Hannah of Memphis;

sister, Jamie Shrable (Rick Wilson) of Jonesboro;

grandson, Matthew Harrison of Memphis;

2 nieces, Jill Daves (Mike) of Mt. Home, and Stevie Allison (Jaylon) of Jonesboro;

1 great nephew, Devon Allison and 1 great niece, Zophia Allison, both of Jonesboro.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 17,  in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Pastor Ken Beaver officiating.  Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-2:00 pm Friday,  prior to the service.

Active pallbearers include Rick Wilson, Steve Griffin, Mark Stevens, Wesley Mills, Jerry Tubbs and David Onstead.  Honorary pallbearers include Kirby Roe, Steven Wright and Dan Mattix.
