With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved father, Miller “Clarke” Vickers, who passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2026. We find comfort in the countless memories we shared. He was our greatest supporter, offering unconditional love, unwavering encouragement, and guidance throughout our lives. Clarke was born on November 24, 1942, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Fleet and Mae Vickers.
Clarke attended Christian Brothers High School in Memphis, Tennessee. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Germany prior to the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he began his career with First Tennessee Bank in downtown Memphis. As life often does, Clarke’s journey took an unexpected turn in the late 1970s. With the love and support of his parents, he embraced raising his two children in the close-knit community of Jonesboro, Arkansas.
Clarke was preceded in death by his parents, Fleet and Mae Vickers, and his sister, Jana Kay Garcia. He leaves behind his daughter, Stephanie Smith (Jason) of Hot Springs; his son, Sam Vickers (Paula) of Jonesboro; and three cherished grandchildren, Kaylee Smith, Rayna Vickers, and Olivia Vickers.
Clarke was a dedicated and active member of the Jonesboro community, where he established his own accounting firm, Vickers and Vickers Business Services. He was a proud member of the Jonesboro Rotary Club and devoted many years to Boy Scout Troop 6, serving as an Assistant Scoutmaster. Some of his fondest memories were made on camping trips to Philmont Scout Ranch and during Troop 6’s annual fall visits to Shiloh National Military Park. One of his most favorite traditions was dressing as Santa Claus for Troop 6’s annual pancake breakfast, a role he eagerly looked forward to each year and one that brought joy to countless children and families.
Clarke’s love of driving and traveling first began while as a member of Central Baptist Church. He then worked part time for Great Southern Coaches which eventually led him to drive buses for Arkansas State University’s rugby and volleyball teams. His sense of humor endeared him to those who were fortunate enough to travel with him.
One of Clarke’s most memorable adventures was his trip to Key West in 2007, where he participated in the Ernest Hemingway Look-Alike Contest. Although he didn’t take home the official title, he certainly felt like a celebrity, as locals eagerly approached him for photographs. It was an experience that perfectly captured his adventurous spirit, wonderful sense of humor, and ability to bring joy to those around him. Clarke’s fondness of travel, dedication to his community, and genuine appreciation for people enriched his life with unforgettable memories and lasting friendships. Above all, he will be remembered for the laughter he shared, the lives he touched, and the unwavering love he had for his family. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
The family would like to thank Dr Chintalapani and his staff, the nurses on 4th floor NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital, Ridgecrest Health and Rehabilitation, as well as the staff at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice house for their wonderful care over the past few months.
Visitation will be held Saturday, November 14, at Emerson Funeral Home, beginning at 1:00 p.m. and concluding with memorial service at 2:00 p.m. If you are a close friend of Clarke’s, feel free to wear your favorite Madris plaid or Hawaiian print shirt.
