Mildred Pearson

Mildred D. Pearson, 81, of Jonesboro, died Friday evening at St. Bernard’s Medical Center. She was born in Sedgwick, but had lived in Jonesboro since attending college at Arkansas State. As a vivacious freshman, she met the love of her life, Gerald Pearson. They both studied at A-State until Gerald was accepted to the University of Arkansas Law School. They married June 7, 1947, at Fisher Street United Methodist Church in Jonesboro and moved quickly to Fayetteville for law school. While Gerald studied, Mildred managed the office of Science and Technology. Upon his graduation, the couple moved back to Jonesboro to start a law practice and a family. Mildred was active in her children’s schools and serving as a volunteer for numerous organizations and charities. She was a renowned cook for her family and friends sharing her recipes throughout the region. Mildred loved to be active in clubs, church events, and a variety of sports throughout her life.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, retired Circuit Judge Gerald Pearson; her son and daughter-in-law, Michael Steven & Barbara Pearson of Jonesboro; her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie & Guillermo Villacis of St. Louis; and her grandchildren, Michael Pearson, Matt Pearson, Pilar Villacis, Soraya Villacis, and Diego Villacis.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Fisher Street United Methodist Church with Reverend Larry Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Active pallbearers will be Stanley DeBow, Mike Nelson, James Copeland, Rev. Dr. Charles Coleman, Dr. Mark Cates, Pete Horner, Carl Looney, and Charles Cook.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ada Lou Terry, Lonnie Craft, Emma Rondell, Glenda Craft, Jean Caldwell, Dores & Janice Griffin, Georgia Mahon, and Dr. Corey Diamond.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
