Mildred Coffman, 95, of Black Oak passed from this life on Monday, January 23, 2017 peacefully at her home. She was born to Olin and Sarah Cook on October 24, 1921 in Black Oak. Mildred retired from American Greetings after 27 years and was a member of the Black Oak Assembly of God. She was very active in the church and enjoyed making quilts to donate to Teen Challenge. Mildred was the last surviving member of the 1940 Class of Caraway Central High School. She is preceded in death by her parents, Olin and Sarah Cook; husband, Dillie Coffman; brothers, Randolph Cook and Clifford Cook; sons in law, Lee Whitehead and Jim Stogsdill; grandson, Artie Whitehead; and granddaughter, Valerie Whitehead.
Mildred is survived by her daughters Violet Whitehead of Black Oak and Wanda Stogsdill of Caraway; sisters, Morene Fincher of Caraway and Olean Mahan (Noel) of Cave City; grandchildren, Eddie Whitehead (Lisa), Willie Paul Whitehead (Debbie), Rodney Sanders (Jennifer), and Mark Stogsdill (Mary); great grandchildren, David Whitehead, Megan Steed (Tim), Casey Whitehead, and Kimberly Stewart; and great great grandchildren, Wesley Stewart and Maddie Stewart. Mildred also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at the Black Oak Assembly of God with Bro. James Moore and Bro. Porter officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow at Caraway Cemetery with the active pallbearers being Willie Paul Whitehead, Rodney Sanders, Mark Stogsdill, Eddie Whitehead, David Whitehead, Casey Whitehead, and Tim Steed.
The visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Wednesday at the Black Oak Assembly of God.
