Micheal “Mike”W. Garner, 61, of Jonesboro, died Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at St. Bernard's Medical Center from a ruptured brain aneurysm. Mike was born in Hayti, Missouri to Harry and Evelyn Dodson Garner. He was an active member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church serving as webmaster for the church and school. He was a 4th degree in the Knights of Columbus and served as Past Grand Knight. Mike worked at Hytrol Conveyor Company for 36 years. Mike leaves behind many friends and loved ones who will miss him dearly.
Mike was scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 4 and was awarded the Silver Beaver, the highest award for adult scouters. He was involved in scouting and the Order of the Arrow for over 30 years, and active in many civic and community organizations, including the Jonesboro Jaycees. During Mike’s years as a Jaycee he served on state and local levels and received Jaycees highest honor, a JCI senator. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Garner.
Survivors include his loving wife of 39 years, Ann Willett Garner, of the home; son, Heath Garner and wife Amanda, Jonesboro; Mykal Ann Sammons and husband Fred, Brookland, Arkansas; mother, Evelyn Garner, Hayti; brothers, David Garner, Kennett, Missouri; Steven Garner, Hayti; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Monday, December 28, 2009, at Blessed Sacrament Church with Father Jack Vu officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers are Fred Buhrmester, Murl White, Dean Massey, Stephen White, David Butler, and Zach Taylor with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren, Tyler, Courtney, Ian, Brittney, Katelyne, and Nathan, the Knights of Columbus, Hytrol Employees and his brothers in scouting. Visitation will be from 2 – 4 Sunday, December 27, 2009 at Emerson Funeral Home. Rosary to follow at 4:30 P.M.
