Michael A. Zagala, 61, of Jonesboro died Sunday, September 14, 2014 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. He had lived most of his life in Jonesboro. Michael was of the Baptist belief and loved the Lord and his church family at Central Baptist Church. He retired from the US Air Force, which was a commitment of duty and honor to his country. Michael played on the Air National Guard ball team and later became an umpire. His favorite football team was the Washington Redskins and then any sport that involved a ball and a bat. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Al Zagala and Jean Sanderson.
Survivors include his wife, Tammy Darnell Zagala of the home; sons, Brad Zagala; Nick Zagala and daughter, Elaine Zagala all of Lexington Park, Maryland; step-son, Eric Darnell of Jonesboro; sister, Melinda Winningham(Rick) of Bay and two grandchildren and nephew Garrett Winningham.
Funeral services will be 10:00 Thursday, September 18, 2014 at Emerson Funeral Home with Mike Martin officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery with Garrett Winningham, Cindy Richardson, David Lynn, George Fisher, Jim Foster and Brandon Craig serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are retired members of the US Air Force. Visitation will be Wednesday night from 5-7 in the State Room of Emerson Funeral Home.
