Michael "Mike" Lynn Smith

Michael Lynn “Mike” Smith, 76, of Fort Worth, Texas passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at Arkansas Continued Care Hospital in Jonesboro. He was born February 22, 1948 in Newport to the late Bynum B. and Esther Smith. Mike grew up in the Gourdneck community in Jackson County He was a member of the Church of Christ. Mike attended school at Beedeville before moving to and attending McCrory where he graduated from in 1966.  Mike later attended Harding, before graduating from the University of Arkansas Little Rock.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Mike enjoyed writing poems, stories, reading, doing research at the library and traveling. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with family, especially his nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his brother, Billy Wayne Smith, sister, Peggy Bigham and 3 nephews: David Smith, Kevin Evins and Grant Evins.

Survivors include his 3 sisters: Dorothy Jackson of Kansas City, Missouri, Janice Pollard of Jonesboro, Phyllis Evins of Newport and 13 nieces and nephews: Vickie Stanley of Jonesboro, Christie Wallace of Plano, Texas, Tara Zipp of Ft. Smith, Debbie Smeltzer of Kansas City, Missouri, Bart Dillday of St. Louis, Perry Smith of Jonesboro, Michael Jackson of Nashville, Carrie Rowland of Paragould, Shawn Chapman of Sevierville, Tennessee, Kim Evins of Newport, Jeremy Jackson of Rogers, Eric Pollard of Cabot and Scott Jackson of Placerville, California and numerous cousins.
