Michael M. Griffin, 68, of Jonesboro, died Wednesday at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.
Mike was born in Jonesboro and lived all of his life here except for active military duty. He was a 1962 graduate of Nettleton High School and a U.S. Navy veteran serving in Hawaii and Alaska. He was stationed aboard the USS Granville S. Hall and participated in the Project Shipboard Hazard and Defense (SHAD) Program which tested chemical and biological weapons in the 1960s. Mike enrolled at Arkansas State University following active duty.
Mike attended Rogers Chapel Church of the Nazarene while growing up and later attended Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. He was a farmer and cattleman and enjoyed attending farm sales. He was a member of the Arkansas Cattleman’s Association and enjoyed playing the guitar while in high school and the Navy.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents: Virgil and Pauline Roberts Griffin, by 2 sisters: Patsy Lucas and Mae “Babe” Griffin, and by a sister-in-law: Billie Griffin.
Survivors include 2 sisters and brothers-in-law: Martha and Marvin Higgins and Mary and Herbert Pierce, all of Jonesboro; 3 brothers and sisters-in-law: Jim and Inez Griffin and Roger (Andy) Griffin, all of Jonesboro, and David (Sandy) and Ann Griffin of Clovis, New Mexico, and several nephews and nieces.
Graveside funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:30 in Pine Log Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday morning, 9:00-10:00 at Emerson Funeral Home.
