Michael David Hooks, 67, of Jonesboro passed away Monday, May 31, 2021 at St. Bernard’s
Regional Medical Center after complications resulting from a stroke. He was born in Newport on
August 30, 1953 to the late Mildred and Davy Hooks.
Mike moved to Jonesboro in 1968 and was a 1971 graduate of Jonesboro High School. He
enjoyed Cardinal Baseball and was a loyal fan of both the Razorbacks and Red Wolves. He was a long-time member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and led a men’s bible study class.
As a young man he was known to drag race at George Ray’s Wildcat Drag Strip and continued
to enjoy owning fast cars and motorcycles throughout his life.
A Master Electrician, he began working with his father at the age of 12 when he hid in the back
of his father’s pick-up truck to go to work. He made many friends over the years with building
contractors and customers. Those who knew him well valued his expertise as an electrician and
enjoyed long conversations as friends.
In addition to his parents, Mike is preceded in death by his brother Steven Hooks.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Hooks of the home, daughter Tammy Lee (Joe), son Matt
Hooks (Lindsey), a brother, Marty Hooks, grandchildren Taylor and Tori Beth Williams, Hayes
and Reed Hooks all of Jonesboro. He is also survived by a host of other family and friends who
loved him.
The visitation will be held 5:00 - 8:00 PM on Thursday, June 3 at Emerson Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 4 at Emerson Funeral Home with
Wyndell King officiating. Burial will follow at Nettleton Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Blake
Williams, Jeremy Brock, Hunter Clark, Spencer Green, Derek Dean, and Brandon Powell. The
Oak Grove Baptist Church men’s group will serve as honorary pallbearers.
