Mena Josephine Harris

Mena Josephine Harris, 83 years old of Jonesboro formerly resided most of her life in California, passed from this life Tuesday May 20, 2025. Born June 12, 1941 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Garnett Isbell and Marie Hughes Isbell.

In addition to her parents, Mena was preceded in death by her sister, Beverly Stubblefield; brother, Garnett Isbell II; daughter, Lesa Santos and son William Mead II.

She is survived by her son James "Jim" Mead (Kathy) of Jonesboro; daughter Mena Mead of San Francisco, California; son-in-law, Edgar Santos of San Jose, California; grandchildren, Edgar Santos Jr of Sacramento, California, Jonathan Mead of Jonesboro, Deryk Santos of North Carolina, Natalie Davis of Florida and Jacob Mead of Jonesboro as well as 9 great-grandchildren.

Mena was a beloved Mother and Grandmother. She was an amazing homemaker and a very strong woman. She was a very caring person and always willing to help someone in need. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a very quick wit. In addition to her motherly nature and homemaking, she was also a very intelligent woman. She volunteered working with the NAACP to fight for the civil rights of humans. She was an excellent story teller and public speaker. She was also a giver to people down on their luck who needed a helping hand and a place to stay to get back on their feet. She was always a fighter for the underprivileged.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to her caregiver Saied and the wonderful staff at Woodbriar in Harrisburg.

Visitation will be held Saturday May 24, 2025 at Emerson Funeral Home from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

Services will follow at 10:00 a.m. officiated by Father Cody Eveld of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
