Melvin Wayne Wessell, 68, of Jonesboro, passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2019, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.
Born in San Benito, Texas, Melvin moved to Weiner at an early age and lived in Weiner before moving to Fisher at 10 years of age. He was a 1968 graduate of Weiner High School and moved to Jonesboro in 1971.
Melvin was a welder most of his working life and worked at Delta Toolbox, Spirit Manufacturing, Mid-America Manufacturing and J & K Industries. He later worked at Country Liquor Store before becoming disabled.
Melvin was a member of North Main Baptist Church but often attended the Salvation Army Church with his daughter. He was a member of Nettleton Lions Club and was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin W. and Morine Willis Wessell.
Survivors include his 2 daughters: Chasity Johnson and Melody (Tim) Sailor, all of Jonesboro;
4 grandchildren: Megan, Haley, Caitlyn and Michael;
3 great grandchildren: Jasmine, Ayden and Lilith;
First wife, Patricia Wessell of Jonesboro;
1 uncle, R.J. Willis (Ruth) of Fisher, and
special friend, "Tuffy."
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Major Anthony Baso officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Weiner. Visitation will precede the funeral service from 10-11 a.m. in Emerson Chapel.
Pallbearers include: Jeremy Chamlies, Tim Daniels, Terry McLaughlin, Scott Baker, Daniel Brown and Tim Childers.
Honorary pallbearers include the Weiner High School Class of 1968.
