Melvin Brown, 91 of Jonesboro, passed from this life October 29, 2013 at St. Bernard’s Medical Center. He was born in Watervalley, Mississippi to Sid Brown and Erma Roberts Brown. Melvin served our country while being active part of the U.S Marine Corps during WWII. He originally came from Trumann before moving to Detroit, Michigan, and later retiring to Jonesboro in 1976. Melvin was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Trumann. Melvin was very involved where ever he was and his life could attest to that. He was a member of the Lions Club, 32nd degree Mason, Trumann Police Officer, pitched for the Chicago White Sox, Spokesperson for the Detroit Red Wings and for variety of charity events, he also owned P & J Construction Company during his time in Detroit. Melvin was a very likable man who seemed to never meet a stranger and he always had story and that was just the fun loving man that he was.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents Sid and Erma Brown; wife Jeanette Brown; One son Don Brown; Three brothers James Brown, Freddy Brown, Eddie Brown; One sister Willene Brown; and One Granddaughter Melissa Greig.
He was survived by his wife of many years Opal Lee Brown. Four sons: Melvin Brown Jr. (Becky) of Conroe, TX; Gary Brown (Cathy) of Highland, MI; Jim “Moose” Brown (Jamie) of Goodlettsville, TN; and Sid Brown of Bono, AR. Two daughters include: Erma Lou Ashley (Carlton) of Southaven, MS, Jeri Johnson (Mike) of Jonesboro and sixteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Services will be Friday November 1, 2013 at 2 P.M. at First Baptist Church in Trumann and they will be accepting friends and family for an early viewing at 1 P.M. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of all arrangements. Pallbearers will be the grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers will be Red Bearden, Hubert Brodell, Jr. Haggenmaker, Bob Bishop, Mike Coy, John Fowler, and the men of the round table of McDonald’s & Hardees.

Visitation will be Thursday October 31, 2013 from 6-8 at Emerson Funeral Home.
