Melinda Jean Bass, 61 of Jonesboro passed from this life surrounded by her family on October 17, 2022, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. Melinda or “Nene” as she was know to her siblings, nieces, nephews or “Granny Bop” as she was known to her precious grandchildren. She was born July 9, 1961, to Gerome and Betty Orr Bass of Walnut Ridge. Melinda worked most of her career as an administrative professional and was a licensed real estate agent for many years. She was of the Baptist faith. Nene loved all things outdoors. Whether she was gardening, canoeing down the Spring River fishing for Walleye, watching the sunset on the beautiful Greers Ferry Lake, or just lounging in their backyard pool she was happy. She was an amazing cook and although her family had to beg for some of her most prized dishes, she loved cooking for family get togethers. Any time she could spend with her family and her grandbabies were some of the most joyful days of her life. Melinda is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Bill and Lucy Orr, her paternal grandparents, Leonard and Myrtle Bass; her father, Gerome Bass, her mother, Betty Bass, and her favorite brother-in-law Timmy Meredith. (He was her only brother-in-law, so he always insisted he had to be the favorite),
Survivors include her life partner of 27 years Kathy Sellers of the home; daughter, Jackie Brown of Jonesboro; brothers, Bill Bass of Augusta, Joe (Kathryn) Bass of Black Rock and Scott (Pam) Bass of Jonesboro; sisters, Jackie Bass Meredith (Timmy) of McCrory and Vickie Bass Mays of Walnut Ridge; 3 grandchildren, Ayden Edwards, Addie Grace and Allie Cantrell; their 3 rescue dogs, Harley Joe, Penny Jo and Jethrine Jo. If you were wondering why all have the middle name Jo, let’s just leave it at “if you know, you know” She is also survived by many other cherished family members and friends.
Larry Kinderick will officiate the service to be held on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at the Sedgwick Baptist Church in Sedgwick, Arkansas. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 PM and service will follow at Old Military Cemetery in Sedgwick.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Tristan Meredith, Brandon Bass, Daryol Edwards, Josh Massey, Josh Gambill and Thornton Jones.
