Melendia Bennett Render, 85, of Jonesboro, died Thursday, September 22, 2011, at St. Elizabeth’s Place in Jonesboro.
Melendia was born in Jonesboro and lived most of her life here. She was a retired executive secretary to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Arkansas State University with 30 years of service.
She was a graduate of Melton Business College in Jonesboro and was a member of Jonesboro Business and Professional Women. Melendia was also a member of the Cherokee Village United Methodist Church, Arkansas State University Secretaries Club, Arkansas-Oklahoma chapter of the National Secretaries Association, and the Jonesboro chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She enjoyed oil painting and water painting, was a member of the Northeast Arkansas Visual Arts League and was preceded in death by her parents, George and Ruth Dacus Schisler, and by a brother, Arthur Byron Schisler.
Survivors include her husband, H.G. Render of the home;
2 sons and their wives: Robert and Nancy Bennett of Longmont, Colorado, and Lindel and Wyvetta Bennett of Jonesboro;
1 brother, E.R. Schisler of Sherwood;
1 sister, Addie Johnson of Spokane, Missouri;
3 grandchildren and their spouses: Melody and Luke Simon of Longmont, Michael and Kristie Bennett of Jonesboro, and Robby and Tina Bennett of Vero Beach, Florida; and
5 great grandchildren: Noah Simon, Carson Simon, Mackenzie Simon, Owen Simon and Ashley Bennett.
Visitation will be held Saturday afternoon, 3:00-5:00, at Emerson Memorial Chapel.
Graveside services in Philadelphia Cemetery will be private.
Pallbearers include Richard Schisler, Randel Schisler, Edward Lee Schisler, Bryan Roedel, Derrick Copeland, Chris Erwin, Michael Bennett and Robby Bennett.
