Maxine Haun

August 15, 1931 — November 25, 2016

Maxine Haun, 85, of Jonesboro, passed away Friday, November 25, 2016, at Southwind Heights Retirement Village where she resided.

Born August 15, 1931, on the family farm between Trumann and Harrisburg, Maxine graduated from Trumann High School and attended Arkansas State University. She worked for Dr. Floyd Smith, Jr. as business manager of Smith Clinic and Hospital from 1956-1968.

Maxine opened her first Merle Norman Cosmetics Studio and Town and Country Beauty Salon in Trumann then moved to Indian Mall in Jonesboro on January 1, 1970. She added locations on Southwest Drive in Jonesboro and also in Walnut Ridge. Maxine opened her last studio on April 20, 2006, in the Mall at Turtle Creek and operated it until her retirement three years ago. She received a 40 year service pin from Merle Norman in 2007.

Maxine was a charter member and past president of the Poinsettia Club of Trumann, and past president and board member of Altrusa Club of Jonesboro and served as Executive Director of the Miss Jonesboro Pageant for 13 years, 1981 through 1993. Additionally, she served 10 years on the Board of Directors of Arkansas Grocers and Retail Merchants Association and was named "Arkansas Retailer of the Year for 1992." Maxine was secretary-treasurer of the Northeast Arkansas Antique Car Club and restored two of her original Thunderbirds, a 1966 model and a 1973 model, for display during club activities.

Maxine was a member of Southwest Church of Christ where she was active in the Sisters Keepers Group of Ladies. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, George J.W. and Eula Knight Hinds; her son, Jimmy David Davis; 3 sisters and 6 brothers.

Survivors include her granddaughter and grandson-in-law: Dee and Heath Shepherd of Mayflower;
3 brothers: Terrell (Aline) Hinds and Ferrell (Jean) Hinds, all of Memphis, and Oliver (Becky) Hinds of Trumann; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Monday at Emerson Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Emerson Memorial Chapel with James Strait officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers include nephews Donald Presley, Gerry Hinds, William Hinds, Van Hinds, Mark Hinds and August Hinds.
