Maxine Hannah

August 22, 1933 — June 29, 2020

Maxine Hannah was born August 22, 1933 in Brookland, Ark. to Dwight and Nora Dickens Childers. She passed away at her home peacefully on June 29, 2020 at the age of 86. She is preceded in death by her husband, Troy Hannah; son, Freddie Wayne Hannah; parents Dwight and Nora Dickens Childers; and brothers Preston, Eugene, and Frank Childers.

Maxine grew up in Brookland, graduating from Brookland High School in 1950 and later attended business school in Jonesboro where she met her future husband, Troy. Maxine and Troy were married on November 24, 1951. They later moved to Flint, Michigan where Maxine worked for General Motors Acceptance Corporation.

After returning to Arkansas, Maxine worked for Nettleton School District as a secretary. She retired from Arkansas State University’s Registrar’s Office. Maxine was a founding member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church where she was a member for 65 years.

Maxine is survived by her son Dr. Russ Hannah and his wife, Cindy of Jonesboro; grandchildren Chris Hannah and his wife, Jen of Arlington, Tenn., and Jennifer Hannah of Jonesboro; great granddaughter, Madeleine Hannah; as well as several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express immense gratitude to Tommy, Rita, and Mark French for the care, friendship, and love they've shown to Maxine over the last 16 years.

Funeral services will be 2:00 on Thursday, July 2, 2020, at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Billy Vanderbilt officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.  Burial will follow at McDaniel Cemetery with Russ Hannah, Chris Hannah, Brian Smith, Mark French, Gene Wing, and Steven Henley serving as pallbearers.  Visitation will be from 1:00 until service time on Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials can be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 2201 South Culberhouse, Jonesboro, Arkansas 72401; or the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas, P.O. Box 2097, Jonesboro, Arkansas 72402.

Due to COVID 19 guidelines, facemask must be worn while at the visitation and funeral.  A maximum of 150 persons will be allowed in the building at any given time. At graveside, social distancing is strongly recommended.  To sign an online guestbook, go to emersonfunealhome.com.
