Max Merrill

January 2, 1932 — October 26, 2020

Max Merrill, 88 of Jonesboro, passed from this life Monday, October 26, 2020 at his residence.  He was born January 2, 1932 to Homer and Lillian Montgomery Merrill in the Herman Community. Max worked at City Water & Light for 37 years and retired as assistant supervisor of the power plant.  He was a member of  Valley View Church of Christ and a proud veteran of the U.S. Army.  Max enjoyed having coffee and talking with friends at McDonald’s and listening to gospel music, especially the Gaither’s.  He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and dog sitting with his son’s dog, Macy the cocker spaniel.  Max is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marvelle Edgar.

Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Doris of  the home;  son and daughter-in-law; Ron and Donna Merrill; sister, Sarah Stanley of Memphis; 4 grandchildren, Kiley Fleming (Will), Hannah Bridges (Dustin), Ann Fortune (Chad) and JoHannah Ross (Ron) ;7 great grandchildren; nephews, Larry Edgar (Carolyn), Garry Edgar (Susan), Steven Edgar; and special friends for many years, George and Pauline Penter and Ted and Janet Hardin.

Visitation will be Friday, October 30, 2020 at Emerson Memorial Chapel from 12-1PM with the service starting at 1 PM.  Spencer Furby will be officiating.  Burial will follow at Herman Cemetery.  Honored to serve as pallbearers are Chad Fortune, Will Fleming, Dustin Bridges, David Fortune, Ted Hardin, Brooks Cravens, Terry Smith and Dennis Gregory.

Honorary Pallbearers are great grandchildren; Wiley Fleming, Forrest Fleming, Asher Bridges, Ella Grace Fleming, Merri-Anniston Abby Fortune.
