Mavrick Lee Cook, 99 of Jonesboro died Thursday, August 17, 2017 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. He was a life-long resident of Jonesboro. Mavrick was an active member of Central Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher, trustee and a deacon. Mavrick loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He served his country in the US Army during WWII. After returning from the war, he owned and operated Home Ice Company from 1946 until his retirement in 1973. He enjoyed the farm where he tended to his cattle and his garden. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Virginia Doris Vinson, one son Fredrick “Ricky” Alan Cook, his parents, and one brother Marvin Cook.
Survivors include his daughters, Doris Lee Cook Burris (Doug) of Austin, Texas; Sara Kathryn Cook Pagan (Steve) of Jonesboro; brother, Vance Cook of Jonesboro; sister, Sarah Grant (Joe) of Morrisville, Missouri; four grandsons and four great grandsons and one great granddaughter.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Central Baptist Church with Archie Mason and Mike Martin officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will be at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with grandsons Tim Burris (Susan), Kevin Burris (Cheryl), Christopher Pagan (Ashley) Brian Pagan, (Mallory), great grandsons,Cole Burris (Dani), Jeffrey Burris and Vinson Pagan serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are James Oldham, Gene McMorries, Larry Bailey, Joe Grant, Mike Jones, Mark Towner, Lynn Cook, Greg Cook, Mike Vinson, Bill Gibson, Dr. Ben Owens, Dr. Ray Hall, Deacons of Central Baptist Church, Earl Carter, Norman Harris and Jack Harris. Visitation will be from 1:00 until service time at Central Baptist Church.
