Matt Tolbert Wright Jr., 76, departed this life on May 16, 2026, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro. He was born on January 16, 1950, in Newport, Arkansas, to Matt Tolbert Wright Sr. and Dovie Wright.

Matt proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a proud veteran. Born and raised in Newport, he later made Jonesboro his home, where he spent the remainder of his life. He accepted Christ at an early age and carried his outgoing and joyful spirit everywhere he went. Matt loved fishing, shooting pool, and spending time with his family and friends. He was known for making people laugh and never meeting a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Vivian Howard; and his nephews, Tydarell Howard and Rodrick Howard.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Tammy Lasley of Jonesboro and Tara Gibson of Dallas, Texas; his son, Tyrone Alcorn of Boston, Massachusetts; four grandchildren, Jamica (Lester) Brown, Jerico Wright, Kowan Wright, and Journee Gibson; eleven great-grandchildren, with a special great-grandson, Jakaylen “Spike” Wright; along with a host of family, loved ones, and a lifetime of friends.

The family will host a memorial service at a later date.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jerico Wright, Kowan Wright, Lester Brown, Keith Peel, and Alex Howard.
