Sue Riggins, 88, of Jonesboro, Arkansas, exchanged her earthly body for a perfect one on Sunday, October 12, 2008. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Jack Riggins, who died on July 24th of this year. Sue is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Haug and her husband Helmuth of Kansas City, Missouri, and her son John Riggins and his wife Nadalyn of Little Rock, Arkansas. She is also survived by her sister, Evelyn (Chick) McQueen of Little Rock.
Sue was a native of Arkadelphia, Arkansas and met Jack during college. They married in 1941 and together began a life in the military. Jack was an Army officer and Sue was his partner throughout his 33 year career. As an Army wife, Sue joined Jack in assignments as distant as Germany and Japan, as well as stateside posts in Alaska, Washington, DC, California, Georgia, Chicago, and finally in Arkansas.
Sue took pride in helping the wives of young officers adapt to life in the military and to flourish in often difficult situations.
Sue was also an avid bridge player, reader, and cross word puzzle solver. She passed her love of learning on to her grandchildren Stephanie, Kimberly, Melissa, and John Allen. They in turn showered “Mama Tu” with love and affection and looked forward to going to her house for ice cream bars and to watch Jeopardy and the Atlanta Braves. She always looked for opportunities to “make memories” for everyone around her.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 17, 2008 at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Reverend Stan Parris will officiate. Memorials can be made to Home Health Professionals and Hospice, Inc., 2222 Spence Circle, Jonesboro, Arkansas 72401 or to the First United Methodist Church of Jonesboro.
