Mary Steinegger Stallings

January 30, 1927 — July 20, 2010

Mary Steinegger Stallings, 83, of Jonesboro, began Heaven’s celebration on Tuesday, July 20. She was a resident at the Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House. She was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas where she lived most of her life. She was the widow of Neil Stallings, former Mayor of Jonesboro. A woman of many talents, she was a loving wife, and devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was an active member of Forest Home Church of the Nazarene. Her desire to make a difference in the lives of young people was the driving force behind her dedication to youth ministry. As a gifted musician, she used her talents for over sixty years as church pianist. She held many other offices of leadership on the local and district levels in her church.

Along with her husband, Neil, she was co-owner of Jonesboro Poster Advertising Company and in the early years also worked at Citizens Bank. She was a people-oriented woman with the gift of hospitality whose home was always open.

She is survived by her children, Ken & Linda Stallings; Kathy Moore, all of Jonesboro; her grandchildren, Heather & Brad Wilson of Prairie Village, Kansas; April Stallings; her great grandson, Owen Stallings; brother, Fred (Jane) Steinegger; and sister Carolyn (Bob) Payne, all of Jonesboro.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Neil Stallings; her parents, Earnest & Myrtle Halford Steinegger; a son, Keith Stallings; son-in-law, Steven Moore; and a grandson, Nathan Stallings.

A celebration of her life will be Friday at 6:00 p.m. at Forest Home Church of the Nazarene with Ken Stallings officiating. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be private.

Active pallbearers will be Larry Gibson, Sam Brown, Steve Brown, Andy Stallings, Steve Purtee, and Lance Shepard. Honorary pallbearers are all former Forest Home Youth Choir members.

Visitation will be Friday 4:30 p.m. until the beginning of the service at 6:00 p.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Forest Home Church of the Nazarene, 1922 Race Street, Jonesboro, Arkansas, 72401 or Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House, 1138 E. Matthews, Jonesboro, Arkansas, 72401.
