Mary Katherine Sisk, “Kitty”, age 95 of Jonesboro, AR, passed away Tuesday, November 13 th , 2018 at Community Compassion Center of Jonesboro, AR. Kitty was a graduate of Forrest City High School in 1941 and was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. Kitty was a pioneer retiree of AT&T.
Kitty was a member of First United Methodist Church in Jonesboro, served as an Auxiliary Volunteer for St. Bernard’s Regional Medical Center. She was a member of the Arkansas Society of the DAR, Jonesboro Chapter, and was the driving force behind the establishment of the Northeast Arkansas Art League, NEAVAL. She studied art at the Memphis Academy of Arts with renowned artist, Mario Bacchelli. She helped organize the Bartlett Art Association and was also a member of the Memphis-Germantown Art League before moving to Jonesboro.
Kitty also served as an officer in the Biloxi Art League. While at Memphis State University, Kitty developed an interest in watercolor. She has won numerous awards in Arkansas, Mississippi, and Tennessee. Her works are in private collections in Germany, Sweden, and England. Kitty’s most accomplished watercolor is the “Magnifique,” which became a Limited Edition print.
Kitty is preceded in death by her husband, W.J. Sisk, veteran of WWII, who passed away in 1993, her parents, JD Powell and Mary C. Powell, her brother, William David Powell, and sister, Martha Ann Powell. She is survived by Kathy Worthy and Dottie Arnold (nieces), both of Marked Tree and Ken and Bill Powell (nephews), Jonesboro.
