Mary Lou Fleming

August 6, 1922 — June 3, 2007

MARY LOU FLEMING, 84, a life-long resident of Jonesboro, passed away quietly in her home after a brief illness on Sunday, June 3, 2007.

Their only child, she was born on August 6, 1922 in Memphis, TN to William. Otho and Willena Burton Fleming who preceded her in death.
Attending Jonesboro schools, she graduated from Jonesboro High School Class of 1940 and was involved in planning class reunions which she attended with her many friends. She was a student at Arkansas State University and retired after many years as a medical secretary. She was a faithful member of St. Marks's and more recently St. Timothy's Anglican Church until disability limited her.
Mary Lou spent much of her retirement as a volunteer for local organizations including Jonesboro Church Health Center and the NEA Humane Society. She enjoyed bingo at the Elks Lodge, card parties, and breakfast club. As her health failed her she became home-bound and the telephone was her contact with those friends she loved.
Mary Lou was well-known among her circle of friends for her ability to relay stories and events of the long past. She had a great memory for detail and names. She could tell a great story and her laughter was contagious. Although many of her closest friends have passed on, she will be remembered and missed by those who knew and loved her.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday June 6th at 10:00 AM in Oaklawn Cemetery, with Father Brad Cunningham, officiating.
Pallbearers will include David, Ronald, John, Bryan, Jason and Landon Roades as well as other friends.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Emerson's Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to NEA Humane Society; St. Jude Hospital, Memphis TN or Jonesboro Church Health Center. There will be no visitation.
