Mary Katherine Rains, 62, of Jonesboro, died December 23, 2012 at St. Bernards Medical Center. She was born June 12, 1950 in Wynne to Gene & Marie Devazier Kerr. She graduated from Forrest City High School and received her BSE and MSE in elementary education and early childhood from Arkansas State University. Mary Katherine taught kindergarten at Nettleton Public Schools for 32 years before retiring in 2005. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and an organizing member of Cynthia Crowley Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution. She was currently a member of the Jonesboro Chapter of DAR. She was a member of Phi Delta Kappa educational fraternity, ASU Alumni Association, Red Wolves Club, and the Touchdown Club.
Mary Katherine is survived by her brother, Joe Kerr of Colt; step-daughter, Betty Jo Rousey, step-grandson, Matthew Rousey, both of Jonesboro; nephews, Robert Kerr, Los Angeles, California, Joey Kerr, Fayetteville; and a niece, Brenda Richards, Houston, Texas.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Blann Rains; step-daughter, Jeannie Rains; and a step-grandson, Bryan Harvey.
Funeral services will be Friday, December 28, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Albert Camp officiating. Burial will follow in McDaniel Cemetery. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Serving as pallbearers will be Fred Hargett, Ken Stewart, Dean Roach, Cletis Collins, Bobby Puryear, Bobby Hogue, and Brett Collins.
Visitation will be Thursday 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
