Mary Jane (Brooks) Johnson, 85, of Crenshaw, MS, formerly of Jonesboro and Caraway, passed away on October 6, 2023 at the Regional One Health Medical Center in Memphis. She was born in Hancock, Arkansas on March 11, 1938 to Dick and Lovis Brooks.
Mary Jane lived most of her life in Caraway. She was a graduate of Caraway Central High School and played softball for the Caraway Jets. Mary Jane was an outstanding softball player and continued playing in her later years on the Golden Girls Senior Olympics softball team. She loved all sports – especially baseball and rodeo. Mary Jane was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed helping with the opening ceremonies at the Universal Pro Rodeo, owned by her son, Mark.
Music was something Mary Jane found great joy in. She adored country music and Elvis. Above all else, Mary Jane loved her family and the Lord.
In addition to her parents, Mary Jane is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Floyd Johnson; and her brothers, Waymon, Joe Ed, and Jerry Brooks.
Mary Jane is survived by her son, Mark Johnson of Crenshaw, MS; granddaughter, Brandi (Matt) Bridwell of Little Rock; great-grandchildren, Blake and Maggie Kate Bridwell; several nieces, nephews, and loved family members; and a lifetime of friends.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. Bro. Johnny Hutchison will officiate the service.
