Mary Irene Brown

Mary Irene Brown, 90, of Lake City, passed away Monday, August 24, 2009 at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro. She had been a resident at Lakeside Nursing Center in Lake City since October, 2004.

Irene was born September 11, 1918 in Booneville, Mississippi and moved to Jonesboro at the age of four. She married James Brown on October 12, 1939. She and her husband, Jim, had lived in Indio, California for many years. While there she worked in the retail business. Irene and Jim lived most of their lives in the Jonesboro-Lake City area. She had been a baker at George Jackson Health Center before retiring. She was a member of Refuge General Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James O. Brown; her parents, Enoch & Maudellie Vuncannon Doty; her brothers, B.G. Doty and John P. Doty; her sisters-in-law, Doris Doty and Verna Doty; her nephews, Roger Doty and Jerry Doty; and her niece, Patricia Joan Kiel.

Survivors include two nephews, Tom Doty of Horseshoe Bend, Mark Doty of Jonesboro, and a niece, Karen Doty Schoeneweis of Alton, Illinois.

Funeral services will be Saturday, August 29, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel in Jonesboro with Pastor Larry Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
