Mary Elizabeth Scallions Harner, 87 of Jonesboro, died on Tuesday night, at her home of natural causes.
Mary was born in Burdette, Mississippi County, Arkansas to Dallas and Katie Scallions. As a child Mary moved to Jonesboro with her parents, where she grew up.
She graduated from what was State High, Arkansas State College and now known as ASU University.
She first married Raymond Bowdon in 1950 who was tragically killed in a fuel truck accident, at which time his father was also involved and killed.
Mary later moved to Memphis, and worked for many years. She met her second husband, George Harner of Memphis.
In 1996 she moved back to Jonesboro to care for her ailing mother.
She went to work at the East Arkansas Area on Aging where she retired. Then Mary worked for Pathfinders, Inc., where she worked with the special needs people. She immensely enjoyed working with them.
Mary was preceded in death by both husbands, her parents, and one brother, Charles Scallions.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Ramona Bowdon; brother, Bobby Scallions of Mammoth Springs; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Scallions. She leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Funeral service will be Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be from 10 AM until service time.
Pastor B.A. Bowdon, of Oklahoma will be officiating. Burial will be at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.
