Mary “Jeanette” Gum began her journey on this earth on November 28, 1947 in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Her loving parents were Floyd and Hazel Goodman, who preceded her in death. She passed from this life on December 16, 2019 from heart complications.
Jeanette is survived by sisters Pat Goodman Judd and Debbie Goodman Trotti, both of Jonesboro and a brother, David Goodman of Laurens, South Carolina. She was an adored and much loved aunt and great aunt and she is survived by her nephews John Judd, Kelly White, Matthew Judd, Jonathan Goodman and one niece, Jessica Gregory and a number of great nieces and nephews and cousins.
Jeanette graduated from Jonesboro High School, Class of 1965. Her travels eventually took her to Los Angeles in the late 60s and into the 70s where she worked as a seamstress. Clients included the Jackson Five and Diahann Carroll. After returning to Jonesboro, she worked various jobs. Health issues finally forced her retirement from her long time job as a newspaper carrier for the Jonesboro Sun.
Jeanette was a social butterfly and enjoyed memberships and offices in various organizations including the Eastern Star, VFW, and the Eagles. She founded the Jonesboro Coupon Club and served as president. Also, by those who knew her, she was a treasured friend. Jeanette had friendships spanning decades. She also cherished the recent friendships made with residents and staff at Ridgecrest Health and Rehabilitation. Her gentle, honest, and nurturing ways will be missed by family and friends.
In her lifetime, Jeanette enjoyed cooking, dancing, reading, coupon clipping, coupon shopping, and at one time, racing in the Powder Puff stock car races at the Jonesboro Speedway. She loved animals, butterflies, music, socializing, and just having fun.
Jeanette was a devoted “mom” to many fur babies throughout the years and in lieu of flowers, she would encourage donations to the local animal shelter.
