Mary Ethel Armstrong

Mary Ethel Armstrong, 82, of Jonesboro passed from this life Thursday April 4, 2024 at St. Bernards Medical Center. She was born August 7, 1941 in Athens, Alabama to the late James Walton Smith and Lena Chambers Smith.

Mary has lived in Jonesboro for 2 years after moving from Hickory Ridge, where she was a member of the Hickory Ridge Church of Christ. She was a great cook and enjoyed cooking for people. She also enjoyed canning and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Armstrong as well as a sister, Juanita Castle.

Survivors include her sons, Kenny Smith of Harrisburg, James (Ruth) Owens of Jonesboro, Darrell (Barbara) Armstrong of Jonesboro and Mike (Kim) Armstrong of Cherry Valley; daughter, Theresa (Shawn) Powell of Jonesboro and special daughter, Mattie Barnes of Jonesboro; brothers, Wade (Daisy) Smith of Wynne and Bobby (Diane) Smith of Tanner, Alabama; sisters, Peggy (George) Burnett of Hickory Ridge and Wilma (Bruce) Taylor of Lakeland, Florida; grandchildren, Creighton Powell, Blake Powell, Erica (Ryan) Manley, Summer (Luke) Lovell, and Carmon (Bryce) Collins as well as great-grandchildren, Silvia Manley, Reed Collins and Everleigh Collins.

Visitation will be held Sunday, April 7, 2024 from 1-2 pm at the Hickory Ridge Church of Christ. With the funeral service following at 2:00 p.m. with Tim Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Lewis Cemetery in Hickory Ridge. Those serving as pallbearers include Randy Mullins, Chris Holt, Jeremy Ging, Brad Lace, Tad Raby and Kenny Gunter.
