Martin Edward Farmer

Martin Edward Farmer died of natural causes on February 19, 2018 in Parker, Colorado. He was born April 24, 1929 in Wynne, son of Isom Byrd Farmer and Leona Gibson Farmer. Mr. Farmer was educated in Wynne public schools, graduating from Wynne High School in 1947 where he was starting center on the varsity football team.

He attended Arkansas State College where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He graduated in 1951 with a BS in Business Administration. Also in 1951, Mr. Farmer married Martha Carole “Susie” Reid of Jonesboro.

Upon graduation from Arkansas State, Mr. Farmer received an Army commission through ROTC. He served in the Korean War with the 15 th Field Artillery Battalion, 2 nd Infantry Division and was awarded the Bronze Star.

After completion of military service, he attended the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy in Memphis where he graduated with a BSPh in Pharmacy in 1955. He was selected for the Rho Chi Academic Honor Society in Pharmacy. Mr. Farmer remained a registered pharmacist for over 50 years.

Following graduation he worked at Reid’s Drug Store in Jonesboro for several years. In 1960, he took a job as a salesman with E.R. Squibb Pharmaceuticals where he worked for 34 years, first in Louisville, Kentucky and later, starting in 1962, in Memphis. After retirement in 1994, he worked part-time in pharmacies in Memphis and worked as a lecturer at the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy.

Mr. Farmer moved to Jonesboro in 2000 and later moved to Parker, Colorado in 2015.

Mr. Farmer was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Maxine English, his wife, his daughter Carol Farmer Lofton, and his best friend Anne Roberts. He is survived by his son Reid Farmer and wife Connie of Parker, Colorado, grandchildren Lauren Farmer Wilson and husband Zach of Long Beach, California, Travis Farmer of Santa Barbara, California, Johnny Lofton of Jonesboro, Brooke Lofton of Little Rock and great-granddaughter Isabella Wilson of Long Beach, California.

A visitation will be from 5-7 Friday, March 9, 2018 at Emerson Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be at 10 am March 10, 2018 at Emerson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.
