Martha Jane Widick, 81, of Jonesboro passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on August 3, 2023 at St. Bernard’s Medical Center. She was born on April 15, 1942, in Corinth, Mississippi, to her parents, John and Blanche Carter.

Martha's passion for education led her to pursue a fulfilling career as an educator. She graduated from Belmont University in 1964 and furthered her academic journey by obtaining a master's degree from Arkansas State University. She spent the later part of her career at Trumann and Westside School Districts where she inspired and impacted the lives of countless students.

Beyond her dedication to teaching, Martha had an array of interests that brought her joy and contentment throughout her life. She was skilled in sewing and crochet. Her love for rescue animals showcased her compassionate and caring nature, as she found joy in providing a safe and loving home for many dogs and cats in need. Gardening was another one of favorite pastimes.

Above all else, Martha's heart was filled with love for her family. Spending time with her loved ones brought her much happiness. She was of the Baptist belief and spent many years attending Walnut Street Baptist Church.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, and her beloved husband, Joe Darell Widick.

She is survived by her two sons, Kevin (Holly Allgood) Widick of Jonesboro and Kyle (Brandi) Widick of Hernando, Mississippi. Her sister, Sarah Schiff (Berny) of Austin, Texas. Additionally, Martha leaves behind three grandchildren: Noah (Shelby) Widick of Springfield, Missouri; Josie Widick of Hernando, Mississippi; and Carrie Widick of Jonesboro. She is also survived by her beloved rescue dog, Violet who was her faithful companion.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at 10 a.m. at Emerson Funeral Home with Bro. Spencer Furby officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the start of service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Martha's memory to NEA Humane Society 6111 E Highland Dr, Jonesboro, AR 72401.
