Martha Viola Harrison

Martha Viola Harrison, 87, of Jonesboro entered into her eternal home on March 23, 2009, with her grandchildren by her side. She was born July 9, 1921 to the late Mr. & Mrs. Robert Henderson. She married the late Thomas Day Harrison on November 4, 1938. Martha and Thomas had one son Adrian Eugene Harrison, of Jonesboro.

Martha spent many years in the Dewitt, Arkansas area before moving to Jonesboro in 1958. She retired from Arkansas State University. She was of the Pentecostal belief, and had taught Sunday school for many years. She was a current member of the Brookland New Harvest Church.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl Henderson and Louis Henderson. One sister Tressie Nelson, and life long friend Desmond Dement.

Martha is survived in addition to her son, two sisters Nancy Carter of Jonesboro and Pearl Linde of Nebraska. Martha has five granddaughters; Diane Morphis of Jonesboro, Gwyn Moody of Trumann, Pamela McGee and Donna Hill both of Brookland. One grandson Ricky Harrison of Jonesboro. She has seven great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren with the most recent addition on March 25, 2009. She also has five step grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday March 26, 2009 at Emerson Memorial Chapel, with Bro. Marty Russell officiating. Burial will follow at Union Grove Cemetery, with Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro in charge.

Active pallbearers will be Brandon Morphis, Tanner Moody, Jason West, Clayton Hill, Scotty McGee and Robert Hunt.

Honorary pallbearers will be David Pittman, John West, Shawn Poor, Steve Moody, Roger Morphis, Barry Morphis, Calvin Hendrix, Nick Raney, Louie Nelson and Bobby Dollar.

Visitation will be from 5-7:00 P.M. Wednesday March 25, 2009 at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro.

Family request that lasting memorials be made to the Brookland New Harvest Church.
