Martha Cheryl Pickering, 73, of Jonesboro passed from this life Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. She was born to the late Harvey and Jessie D. Broadaway on January 17, 1945 in Jonesboro.
She has resided in Jonesboro for her entire life and was a member of the Herman Missionary Baptist Church. Martha retired from Simmons 1 st Bank after completing 38 years of service and was also a member of the Habitat for Humanity in Jonesboro. She was instrumental in the consolidation of Westside Elementary and Middle Schools. She petitioned the widening of County Road 118 in Bono. Martha was a Sunday school teacher at Herman Missionary Baptist Church, where she also volunteered with VBS, Revival, and being youth group van driver. Martha was a caregiver to her husband Dee, of 51 years, as well as two uncles and two aunts. She was most well known for her kindness to her family, friends, and strangers alike, plus her famous chow chow.
In addition to her parents, Martha is preceded in death by her husband Dee, of 51 years. She is survived by her son: John Travis (Elizabeth) Pickering of Jonesboro; daughter: Stephanie (Greg) Nall of Brookland; five grandchildren: Savannah Nall, Victoria Nall, Jack Pickering, Luke Pickering, and Isabel Pickering.
A visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Emerson Funeral Home.
A graveside service will follow at 4p.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Herman Cemetery with Brother Jerry Jolly officiating. Active pallbearers will include: Shannon Davis, Lance Honeycutt, Darren Harpole, Greg Dulaney, Greg Nall, Tony Elmore, Jack Pickering, and Luke Pickering
Honorary Pallbearers will include the Jonesboro High School Class of 1963.
For lasting memorials, the family request that donations be made to the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.
