Marion Sue Thompson

June 28, 1926 — July 13, 2007

Marion Sue Thompson, 81, of Jonesboro, died Friday, July 13, 2007, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

Born in Paragould, Mrs. Thompson lived in Paragould, Harrisburg and Clinton before moving to Jonesboro in 1984. She was a member of First Methodist Church in Jonesboro and was a renowned artist specializing in watercolors and oils.

Sue was a member of Mid-Southern Water Colorists, Northeast Arkansas Visual Art League, American Society of Marine Artists, Coast Guard Artists, and the Memphis-Germantown Art League. She also exhibited paintings locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. Her works presented visually included ‘History of the Steamboat era—1811 to today,’ most notable being the “Sultana Disaster” following the Civil War.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Merle Thompson and a stepson: Merle Thompson, Jr.

Survivors include: Her son and daughter-in-law: Michael and Bridget Bradford of Searcy;

Step daughter: Reba Allbright of Vacaville, California; and

2 Sisters: Carol Moye, and Ann Neuman, both of Jonesboro.

Graveside funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10:00 at Finch Cemetery, southwest of Paragould, with Pastor Wes Keith, of First Christian Church in Searcy, officiating.

Active pallbearers include: Scott Moye, Bobby Owens, Kevin Moye, Gary Prescott, Roger Foust, Keith Thompson and Phillip Thompson.

Honorary pallbearers include: members of the Believers Sunday School class of First United Methodist Church of Jonesboro.

Visitation will be held Sunday evening, 5-7, at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro.

For lasting memorials, the family asks that consideration be given to the American Cancer Society or to First United Methodist Church in Jonesboro.
