Marilyn Cook

November 6, 1934 — February 29, 2020

Marilyn Cook, 85 of Jonesboro, passed away peacefully with family present by her side Saturday, February 29, 2020, at Craighead Nursing Center. She was born in Jonesboro on November 6, 1934, to Robert "Bob" and Fern Duvall Webb. She grew up in Jonesboro and graduated from Nettleton High School.

Mrs. Cook was of the Baptist faith and over the years had attended Fisher Street Baptist Church, University Baptist Church and was a current member of Race Street Baptist Church in Jonesboro.

Mrs. Cook in insurance most of her working life, receiving such honors as Insurance Woman of the Year. She began her career at Grady Insurance Agency working for owners Oscar and Laura Lily, and then for Charles "Chili" Davis, until Mike Medlock purchased the agency which was renamed Jonesboro Security Insurance Agency. She retired after proudly serving her customers for 50 years in the insurance field.

Marilyn was a member of the Opportunity Extension Homemakers Club of Craighead County. She held most of the offices as a member, serving as President multiple times. Her friends and members of the club agreed she was a member who was a great organizer of many of the club activities and service projects in the community. Her passion for serving others and elevating the club could be observed each year at the Craighead County Fair with her loyal participation in the Homemaker Club food booth.

Marilyn was a devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother known as "Nana" to the family. She loved special family trips, gatherings and following her son and grandsons in all of their activities as they were growing up. She was always excited to travel to visit her brother Bob and his family as well as her dear friend Ann King. Marilyn was a great cook and enjoyed trying new recipes to entertain family and friends. Many of her days were spent reading, crafting, gardening and feeding the birds in her yard until her health prevented some of those hobbies. Marilyn was a true animal lover. She and her husband Ray were never without a pet, especially their little dogs over the years which were such an important part of their lives.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her mother and father and her husband of 63 years, James Ray Cook. Marilyn leaves behind to cherish her memory, son Danny R. Cook (Connie) of Jonesboro; brother Dr. Robert "Bob" Webb (Deana) of Kansas City, Missouri; grandsons Bryce Cook (Sara Beth) of Jonesboro and Grant Cook (Jordon) of Fayetteville; two great grandsons Wyatt and Walker Cook of Jonesboro; her special friend Ann Sanders King of Bedford, Texas; and a niece and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday in Emerson Memorial Chapel, 1629 E. Nettleton Ave. with Dr. Robert Webb officiating. Private burial will follow in Strawfloor Cemetery. Visitation will precede the funeral service from 10:00 until service time in the chapel.

Honorary pallbearers include the members of the Opportunity Extension Homemakers Club.
