Marguerite Orr Abernathy, 87, was born and reared in Memphis, TN. She moved to Jonesboro in 1956 with her family. They soon joined First United Methodist Church, where Marguerite sang in the choir for 30 thirty years and was an active member of Friendship Couples Sunday School Class. She was a life-member of Jonesboro Junior Auxiliary. An avid golfer for forty years, Marguerite also enjoyed gardening, canning, and taking care of the wild birds. Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Les Abernathy; one son, Leslie Stewart-Abernathy of Dardenelle, two daughters, Karen Abernathy of Trumann and Leigh Abernathy of Tumbling Shoals; five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 12:30 pm till the start of the service, at 2pm Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Emerson Funeral Home with Patty Soward officiating. The burial will be private.
Active pallbearers will include: Lew Brinkley, Bill Grimes, Dwayne Beisner, Ken Lovern, Dan Rains, Gordon Metzgar, and Bobby Hogue.
Honorary pallbearers will include: Layne Yawn, grandsons, Friendship Couples Class, “Noon” golfers group, Dave Howard, and Mary Shaver.
