Marguerite A. Brown

November 21, 1920 — June 13, 2012

Marguerite P. Brown, 91, of Jonesboro, died Wednesday, June 13 at Lindley Healthcare in Newport.

Mrs. Brown was born November 21, 1920, at Hayden, AZ, the oldest child of Dr. and Mrs. Brewer Phillips. She graduated from University of Utah with a degree in Medical Technology.


Mrs. Brown was a member of Daughters of the American Colonists, Daughters of the Confederacy, Colonial Dames, and the National Genealogical Society. She was a 50-year member of Daughters of the American Revolution, serving as past Regent and Registrar. She also served as Worthy Matron of Order of Eastern Star.


Marguerite worked as a medical technologist at St. Bernard’s Hospital for many years. Mrs. Brown and her late husband, Thad L. Brown, Jr. sponsored a cub scout troop that designed and created the costumes and teepee for the first Chief Big Track and Indian family for ASU.


Her husband, Thad L. Brown, Jr., preceded her in death as well as a sister, Jane Anderson, of Oregon.


She is survived by two daughters, Carol Watkins of Jonesboro; Pat Brown, and husband Mike of Newport; one son, Thad L. Brown, III and his wife, Ingrid of Jonesboro; and one brother Jim Phillips and his wife Jody of Spirit Lake, Iowa. Survivors also include 6 grandchildren, Ginger Ashford and husband Mike of Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, Andrea Alpe and husband Kevin of Jonesboro, Melissa Brown of Nashville, Tennessee, Kevin Brown and wife Laura of Jonesboro, Casey Brown of Little Rock, and Mandy Quick and husband James of Dallas, Texas. In addition, 5 great-grandchildren survive Mrs. Brown.


Graveside services will be held Friday morning, June 15, 2012, at 10:00 in Oaklawn Cemetery in Jonesboro with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.


There will be no visitation.
