Margaret Frances Smith, 100, of Jonesboro, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026, at St. Elizabeth’s Place.
She was born on February 26, 1926, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, to the late Ellis and Anna Hall. Margaret was a woman of deep faith and was a member of Grace Missionary Baptist Church in Jonesboro.
Margaret had a lifelong passion for researching her family genealogy, preserving her family’s history with great care and dedication. She also found joy in reading, and her musical talents shone through her love of playing the piano and organ. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family, who were the center of her life.
Margaret dedicated many years of service to the State of Arkansas, from which she retired.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, W.G. Smith Jr.; and one brother, Ellis Hall Jr.
Margaret is survived by her two sons, William M. Smith (Debbie) of Jonesboro and Phillip Hall Smith (Liz) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; four grandchildren, Anna (Riley) Hitchcock of Brookland, Abigail Margaret Smith and her fiancé Timothy Trinidad of Jonesboro, Alexis (Mateo) Pelaez of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Aubrey Smith and her fiancé Grayson Starling of Jonesboro; and one great-grandchild, Xander Hitchcock.
Margaret will be remembered for her devotion to her faith, her love of family, and the legacy of history and memories she leaves behind.
A Funeral service will be held Monday, May 4, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Don Blackmore officiating. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Cemetery.
