Margaret Stout Scott, 93, of Jonesboro, died Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Jonesboro Health Care. She was born on August 2, 1922 to Chester and Lucille Whitley Stout at Bradford, Arkansas. After graduating valedictorian from Bradford High School in 1940, she earned a B.S.E. degree at Arkansas State Teachers College (today University of Central Arkansas) in 1943. She then taught school at Helena. In 1947 she married Aubrey Estrada Scott, Jr. In 1952 her husband became a partner in what became the architecture firm of Stuck, Frier, Lane, Scott and Beisner. She was a golfer and took many golf trips with Aubrey and friends.
Following her battle with colon cancer she entered into the nursing program at Arkansas State University and became a Registered Nurse (R.N.) in 1979 and specialized in working with ostomy patients. She played piano at the First United Methodist Church and for various community organizations. She sang bass in the Beauty Shop Four along with Mary Ellen Murray, Betty Choate, and Marian Penix. She sang in the Community Choir, served on the Delta Symphony Orchestra Board, and belonged to P.E.O., the Nocturne Music Club, the Craighead County Historical Society and the United Methodist Women.
Margaret is survived by her husband of 68 years, Aubrey; son, Alan Scott; daughter, Peggy Scott Gipson; sister, Elizabeth Dailey; and three grandchildren, Sarah Gipson (Fiancé Kyle Strabala), Michelle Wilson (Andrew) and Angela Scott. She loved her family, her church and her many friends.
Funeral arrangements will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at the Emerson Memorial Chapel with Reverend Patty Soward and Reverend John Miles officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Perry Nettles, Ron Dunn, Andrew Wilson, Mike Broadway, Mike Graham, and Winn Lane as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 5-7 Tuesday night at Emerson Funeral Home.
