Manuel Joseph Kaner, 89, of Jonesboro, died Saturday, September 8, 2018, at NEA Baptist Hospital. He had lived in Jonesboro since June, 2018, moving here from Livonia, Michigan. Manuel was of the Jewish faith. He was an avid and amazing chess player, playing multiple games simultaneously. He loved to read and always had a book, magazine, or newspaper in his hand. During his career, he worked as a dentist for over 50 years. He loved his family, but his grandchildren were his passion. He was preceded in death by his parents, and Sally, the mother of his children.
Survivors include his wife, Fay Kaner, of the home; son, Paul Levy (Andrea) of Jonesboro; daughters, Phyllis Kaner (Damian) of Detroit; Laurie Goldstein (Jake); Marcie Levy of Birmingham; brothers, Bernard Kaner (Judy); Sanford Kaner (Roberta); Albert Kaner (Pauline); grandchildren, Arie, Jeremy, Emily, and Ilyse.
A graveside service will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at Temple Israel Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. There will be no public visitation.
